Slippery When Frozen

I went to go riding last Tuesday since I had my trailer all hooked up from the clinic and it was pretty nice out.  Well started my truck and on the way over to it I slipped and fell.  It was in slow motion.  I kept thinking I was gonna fall and hurt my hip and then I fell and it wasn't bad and just as I was thinking whew Im gonna be alright just a scare....WHOMP!!!  I hit my head pretty hard.  It was in a weird spot too, beside my ponytail high.  I didn't quite now how that happened.

Well instant headache and so back to the house I went.  Put on some peppermint oil (which worked half well, the blinding pain was gone but still had a headache.)  Neil said my tea smelled good, lol I told him it wasn't tea.  I stayed inside the house the rest of the day and was feeling pretty good till bedtime.  Everyone was worried about me having a concussion but Im about 99% sure it wasn't and Neil home in case I had trouble and nothing.

The next morning I was super stiff.  I was a little surprised but probly shouldn't have been.  Then though the day I felt a little better.  so I had plans to go riding on Thursday if I felt good and then I went to the bed I woke up super sore again.  So I stayed home and then after a bit I got wondering if maybe I got a bit of whiplash cause I am not sure unless I I tip my head back.  I wish my Chiro wasnt on vacation.  But I went for a walk today and unhooked my trailer and feel alright so I will be fine till he gets back.

Then planned on Monday to be back at it cause arena was booked all weekend for a trick riding clinic and my sister was moving Sunday.  So we went to help my sister and I hurt myself again.  We had just got there and were loading up the stock trailer and I picked up a step stool and then couldn't move.  Oh great my hip went out again.  Thought it be fine in a few minutes so I sat and rested.  Well my back was spasming and it wasn't good.

So I waited a little longer, just got stiffer and stiffer and if I moved was excruciating.   Well I was pretty useless watching everyone else move and when they were done we stopped at the drumheller hospital and the doctor said it was a pulled muscle and would be very sore for a few days then keep active while it's healing.  Oh and take Tylenol tohe with the pain.  That was frustrating as they gave me a shot of morphine and it didn't help at all.  Well was feeling discouraged and in pain but at least was gonna heal.

The next day was not much better.  I couldn't get up and when I did get up I couldn't support my own weight.  Luckily Neil was around and helpful. But he's not that big he can't be carrying me around so not a lot of movement, I dreaded having to go to the washroom.

Tuesday was a little less pain, could actually roll over in bed without too much trouble and then got up and could walk to the bathroom and back without help!!! I had to lean on the wall a bit but wow never thought that would happen.  So I made an appointment with the chiro for today and rested more.

This morning got dressed in bed kinda awkward but doable and then off we went.  Turns out my pelvis was out.  That got rid of the sharp pain but now it just aches.  So more rest with mini walks and I go back Friday to make sure it's still good.  Here's hoping...I am getting bored laying in bed.  Tried to sit in my chair in the living room but it's too painful yet :(. Only so many books, magazines, videos one can do until I get restless.

Falling Off

So yesterday I fell of Jessie.   Been 2 years since I fell of last, and I hope its longer till the next time.  Ouch!  Landed on my right hip, on the back.  Sure hurt when I did it, so I laid there for a couple minutes till I figured I could get up without falling back down.  Poor Jessie I think she thought it was her fault.  She stood there with her head raised up and never moved till I started talking to her then she kinda relaxed.  Aww  I felt so bad for her.  Wasn't completely her fault.  We were loping around the arena in my English saddle and it was going good, I was feeling confident (never good to feel to confident, lol) and so I thought I would go through the middle, I just hardly picked up the reins to get her to turn and she turned almost right back the way we were going!  Well I said whoa cause I could feel myself falling, but was too late fell off the side and landed just like I was riding but on my back.

I was hurting so I just quit there, was pretty slow going to untack her and feed her, but she was being really quiet and gentle.  I still feel kinda bad for her, not sure if anyone ever fell off her before, she thinks it was her fault I think.  I turned her out and went home.  Was pretty stiff by the time I got home so didn't do much last night and I actually found a comfy spot to sleep and didn't want to get out of bed from worries of stiffness  but wasn't that bad.  Think it helped I iced it last evening and then had a electric mattress cover that I laid on all night.  I feel good enough I might go back and ride today.  In my ranch saddle.  No chances on English when I feel kinda sore, I don't want to fall off again.  Well ever, but certainly not 2 days in a row!

I finally got my camera back that I left on New Years and I tried to take some pics of Jessie in the arena before we rode but got a goofy one of her cause I asked her to stand still while I walked away so her head is up high and then the next one she started coming towards me.  Think I need some help to get decent pics of her.  Was gonna take some outside but after the fall I did not feel like it, so maybe today will be better.

Equestrian Challenge Day 9

Day 09- Any injuries that occurred from riding

Somehow I am doing day nine on the 18th of the month, oops, oh well :)

Injuries from falling....well I can only remember 2.  I try not to fall off.  Sometimes I am not very graceful and it has been a while since I came off and I would like to keep it that way, specially since last time it was my own fault.  (usually is)

I was riding Gypsy, a kid safe horse in the arena at Jardi's and we were just loping around, and I could feel her saddle slipping a little to the inside so I just put a little extra weight in the outside stirrup and woosh the saddle slid all the way to the outside and I hit the wall and then the floor.  Ouch!  Boy was that stupid!  A friend was there and she took me to the ER (really slow on a Sunday night, lol) and he said nothing seemed serious and I had to go back the next day for x-ray on my shoulder.  I tried to get them to do my wrist cause it hurt worse but he said it was OK   I am still not sure it was, but later on it was still bothering me and I went to 3 different doctors and finally got told it was probly a torn quadrator muscle.  It took forever to heal, almost would rather a bone broke them soft tissue damage. (apparently I don't have any pics of Gypsy on this comp :( )

The first time was on my gelding Henry.  He was 2 and very green but good, I was also green but somehow we got along, he was forgiving and I didn't know any better.  He was a wedding gift from my father in law, we went to a sale and he said this was the only horse there he liked, so he bought him.  Figured if at 2 he could walk around the sale barn relaxed he would be OK at home.  Well it was about 2 weeks before my wedding and I had been riding pretty much everyday for the last month or so and he was really well behaved, so friend of mine came up and we were gonna ride through the cows.  i wanted to, they were right outside my fence but didn't want to do it alone.  But I hadn't anticipated how excited he would be to see other horses.  And he took off trotting around the yard and couldn't stand still and I didn't know enough to stop him and he went left and I went right and just fell off, I knew I was going and put my hands out to stop myself.  I got up and he was right beside me (probly wondering what I was doing on the ground)  I was gonna get back on and Doug said he thinks I should go to the doctor cause it looked broke.  I didn't think it was, hurt a little but I had just put my whole body weight on it of course it was gonna hurt.  But I am glad he did and Linda drove me to town and of course it was broke so I had a cast for my wedding!  The had to order in special the white color, cause they had no one who wanted white after they could get colors!  I was in every week for a new cast so I had many colors :)  It worked well, I had to do very little when I moved the few days afterwards though, I liked that.  And that was 8 years ago and it has never bothered me since.  I should scan in a wedding pic one day so you can see the cast in it, crazy!
(this was a few years later, he made a wonderful horse, I took him everywhere
and everywhere I went they all loved him )

Pain

This post is kinda hard for me to write I don't really know why it bothers me so much but it really does.  I hate to admit I hurt all the time.  I guess its kinda like when people ask ``How are you`` and everyone always says oh fine.  I do too and maybe because most people are just being polite when they ask, they don't want to hear bad stuff.

I never really thought of it much until a couple weeks ago a friend says to me (after hanging around all day) soooo how much pain are you really in.  Well I didn't even know what to say.  I don't complain much cause its just always there and so its just kinda normal to me and I don't think about it.

But when I told her my knee always hurts, has since high school.  I sprained it and even though the doctors now say that has nothing to do with it, I kinda wonder.  It does have a diagnosis of femoral patella syndrome, which as far as I can understand my kneecap is not straight.  I went to physio for a while and it kinda helped and she gave me a bunch of exersizes to do and mostly said it will never go away.

And then my hip, which she knew about.  And is really not my hip, its where my pelvis joins my spine.  Sacro-illiac joint I think.  And the ligaments there are too loose so they don't hold the joint right and it slips a little.  I got explained its like holding your fists knuckles together and move one joint out.  Like peaks and valleys and they just move.  I go to the chiropractor regularly and he fixes it, but again no real cure until I get old and they stiffen up and then I probly wont be able to bend over.  Nothing I can do makes them stay or move, sometimes I just sit down and feel it.  But now I know what it feels like in and when its out and so I can go get it fixed sooner.  Which I think helps the muscles retain memory of how it should be.

And now I got a pair of back on track long johns I have been wearing for the last couple days, I don't notice in super improvement, but I think it is just increased blood flow which should help inflammation  and the long johns should get both my knee and hip so I am testing them out.

And my back.  Mostly my upper back and right where the back and neck join.  Nothing spectacular wrong there, just sore and I guess from x-rays I have a really straight back and not very much the s - curve so it makes it worse.  That I go to the chiro and also a massage therapy guy works on me.  I just try to keep it half decent.  But since I have gotten a different pillow it is much improved.

Mostly that is all.  I sometimes wonder if I am falling apart or if I am just getting old and not admitting it.  Either that or I have something else serious going on, but I don't know what I can do about that.   But I guess I will just keep moving on and trying to find better ways to deal with this pain.
