Miss Bailey

Well I have been debating for a long time on selling Bailey.  I really like her, shes a god horse when you want to go chase cows, I know I can get on her after a year and a half (cause I did it before, I dunno how it managed to be that long) I can always catch her, load her, trim her feet, whatever anytime anywhere.  However I just don't ride her much anymore.  She prefers if we ride chasing cows and seems like I do that so little anymore, except during branding.  So comes the debating on selling her.

I actually had a girl come out this summer and try her, she has a fast horse she is scared of and just wants to ride everyday.  She come out and Bailey was at the far end of the field and so we went out with Bob(our side by side) and caught them and then since she doesn't lead by Bob I let her go and drove up to the gate and of course all the horses come running.  We caught her, she saddled her with her own saddle and bridle.  I asked if she wanted to go alone and she said she was super nervous cause of her horse so I caught Jess and we went out together.  We walked and trottted, Bailey was looking around but real good did what she asked.  But in the end she decided no, and I felt a little better I dont know if a nervous person is the one who should own her.  Funny thing though after we caught her and she was saddling her she was already impressed as the last horse she tried the spent an hour catching and then she picked up the blanket and he freaked out like hes never seen a saddle before.  Said he was a good horse after that but I woulda left at that point, yikes don't need to deal with that on a broke horse.

So there is a sale in Lethbridge, a cataloged 2 day sale and its always a big one, lots of ranch horses there so I figured I should sell her there be a good place with lots of viewings cause the catalog is on the internet too.  Got all the paperwork, filled it out.  Been riding Bailey regularly and today turned her out.  Never sent in the papers just wimped out. Its a hard time of year for me to ride all the time, so much going on and its boring in the arena and no cow work before then.  I might find a sale in the spring or just list her for sale in May/June next year.  So many choices.

I think part of the dilemma is I had planned all this before I knew Chili wasn't gonna turn out.  And trying to make other decisions with horses, I don't wanna be left with nothing but Razz to ride.  I'm keeping Dee for a while so she'll be around and Trio of course but she's just gonna be 2 next year so won't be doing a whole lot.  And Jessie, thinking of selling her and getting a better for me cutting horse.  Its a hard choice but if I wanna cut I think its the right one, will go after the Supreme and Calgary cutting mid October and talk it over and see what my options are.

Kali for Sale

Well I did it.  Finally listed Kali for sale.  So far just on Facebook this morning.  And have had a couple people show interest.   If no sale before I come back from Texas I will list her on Northern Horse.  But I have great hopes.  Here is the link to her ad, let me know if I should change anything...specially 4R Ranch as you show lots of sale ads, lol.

Dual Rita aka "Kali" is a super sweet 6 year old mare. She is just a nice horse to be around. She is quiet, gentle, easy to catch, load, trim, pretty much everything. Lots of groundwork done on her, she lunges, ponies just willing whatever you want. Has been ridden since a 3 year old and has some cutting and some reining training. She prefers an arena but has been ridden outside even under the full moon and on poker rallies. She knows her leads, stops, started spins. She would be suitable for a intermediate rider or a beginner with lessons. She is wonderful in the arena with other horses, the more the better. Even rode her with a cart in there the other day and she didn't care. He biggest vice is she loves her buddies and will always head to them if not directed away. She has no buck or rear, she pretty much doesn't know how to be bad, worst she does is stop and not move. Doesn't like water but is getting better. And then her papers, super super breeding being a daughter of Dual Pep and out of a Smart Chicolina mare. I am located in Finnegan, Alberta, and have been riding her regularly all winter. Can haul her to Brooks for try outs in the arena there. Asking $5000 for her.

I'm hoping good things, I need less horses, next comes Bailey and then the broodmares, or maybe the other way around.  Will be nice to get less around here :)

Fridays For Sale --Ponies

So since I will have more money and time wrapped up in Jessie this year and I already had too many horses last year than I wanted to ride, its time for me to become serious about who to sell and who to keep.  If it were only a money issue I wouldn't worry about it, I can live pretty frugal and its pretty cheap for me to keep a horse here cause they are on pasture all year and with feet and worming and vaccines I think it costs me $225 per year per horse, so not really gonna save  a lot by not having them here, I would prefer they are somewhere they can be used.  I am thinking pretty much all of them are for sale, except of  course Jessie and Neil's horse George, and probly not Razz, but if the home and price are right I might reconsider.

First off The Broke ones :

1.  Bailey aka Baileys Coffee.  She is a registered AQHA mare, red dun in color and 9 years old this year.  She has done pretty much anything I ever do with horses, arena riding, outdoor riding, trails, mountains, barrels (somewhat, lol) ranch work, can throw a rope off her, if I get team roping this summer I will probly end up taking her.  She has a lot of energy and needs a job, not a horse to get on once a week for a plod around the property, the more she gets ridden the happier she is.  Super easy to catch (comes when called ), easy to trim, has never had shoes, easy to worm and vaccinate.  Leads, ties and loads easy.  Just a nice horse to be around.  Really like people.  But not for a beginner as she has waaay too much energy and too smart for a beginner.  If you know how to ride, you will like her.  Asking $4500 for her now.  More info on here here or just search her name in the search box.

2.  Kali aka  Dual Rita.  She is a registered AQHA mare, bay with a stripe.  She is out of Dual Pep and a Smart Chic Olena mare.  Super well bred, super cute, athletic and kind.  She is only 5 years old right now but in a couple years she will be an awesome kids horse.  She has had some cutting training, has the ability, just doesn't want to.  Nice arena horse, slower.  Good outside but doesn't like water puddles.  Has had lots of riding and just a generally nice quiet horse.  Asking $4500 for her.

3.  Disco aka Play Like Disco.  She is a registered AQHA mare that is out of Hottrodders Disco, a wonderful cutting stallion.  She is bay with very little white.  She is 18 this year, was rode till she was 8 or so then became a broodmare for a while.  She has had one foal here and then I got on and rode her a few times.  She was a little herd bound but otherwise  just walked and trotted off like it was no big deal.  Think it would take very little to get her back riding again or she is plenty healthy enough to raise a few more colts.  Asking $1500 for her, open right now.

4.  Jazz aka Strait Summer Jazz.  She is a registered APHA mare, black in color with 4 socks and a white face and 3 years old this year.  She has not been started under saddle yet but I plan to this spring get her started.  She is a sweetheart, has loved people since she was born.  Is halter broke and has had her feet done although needs a little more consistent work on that.  She was raised here, out of my Razz mare and a Strait From Texas stud who had to be put down from injury.  Asking $1500 for her if sold before started.

5.  Magic aka Miss Magic Hickory.  She is a registered AQHA mare, 5 years old and a pretty sorrel in color.  I had great plans for this mare, but ran out of time.  She is halter broke, kinda hard to catch need lots of work but I think will come around quickly if consistent.  Asking $1200 for her.

6.  Belle aka LT Belle San Tivio.  Belle is a AQHA registered mare who is sorrel with the rabicano gene.  She is halter broke, leads, ties, load super easy.  Has not been ridden in 6 years and is just scared when ridden so I never have done much with her, just cause I had 2 others at the time I could ride easy.  She has raised an awesome sorrel colt that is 3 this year and lives in BC now.  She is 10 years old and could easily raise lots more colts, she is a really good mother and easy breeder, easy keeper.  Not a troublemaker and stays out of trouble.  Asking $1000 for her open right now.

7.  I hate to put her in but we will see.  Razz aka Little Summer Razz DC.  She is a registered APHA mare, papers say buckskin but she is smokey black.  She is 7 years old and a awesome ranch horse.  She is super athletic, has lots of energy, no buck, willing to go all day everyday and not tire out.  Super sensitive and yet sensible at the same time.  And pretty to boot!  She also has done everything, super well broke, rides in a bosal, hope to get her in a bit this year.  She does not like the snaffle bit but will work in it.  She has done some cutting, lots of ranch work, trail rides, sortings   Asking $5500 for her to the right home.

So I am in no hurry to sell, but I really would like to get down to 4 or 5 here, I think that is a reasonable amount for me to have and that is what my summer pasture will hold (it can hold 6 if the weather is gonna continue to be wet like it has been)  I also am gonna list them on Northern Horse and on my Facebook page. I feel bad I don't have the time to spend with them all, otherwise I would keep them as pasture pets, but I know most of them, mostly Bailey, do not like that, they want to go and do something.

Equestrian Challenge Day 11

Day 11- Find a horse for sale online that you would want to buy

Lets see, its been so long since I looked for a horse cause I do not need anymore horses (if I keep repeating it, I am hoping I will believe it!) But if I were to get another horse it would either be one of 3 things..1.a sibling to my paint horse Razz.  2.  A team of drafts to drive, preferably Belgians.  or 3.  A young cutting horse to put in training.  So that is what I was looking for for this challenge.

1.  I have never seen a horse by Razz's sire for sale online, so I had no idea where to even look.

2.  Drafts are also hard to find online, I generally go to a sale at the beginning of May each year that is all about drafts and driving, so if I were to buy a team, it would probly be at their sale.

3.  So for this challenge I am going to pick a couple 2 year old cutters.  Since the NCHA Futurity was last week, I will pick from there, cause that is where so many go through.  And since the sale is actually over these horses are not for sale anymore, but I can provide a price they sold for and will be kinda fun to see how they are doing in a year or 2.

First is a roan mare (now this was an amazing horse, I almost didn't look at her just cause she is a roan, but I could get over the color for how cool she works as a 2 year old, I can only imagine her as a 3 or 4 year old. She sold for $15000 so kinda out of my price range (I wish!!)

I also like this sorrel colt.  He inst as dramatic in his moves as the mare, but he is so quiet and makes it look so easy that I think he would be awesome.  And his papers say so as well, both his sire and dam are NCHA earnings and have sired foals with earnings so that helps when looking at young stock.  He sold for Oh my I just looked!  Wow, can I pick em or what??? $75, 000!!!! Holy crap, maybe the mare was in my price range after all.

OK now that I just about had a heart attack for picking that expensive of a horse, I guess I better go out and get a job, lol I think I need it for my next new horse!

Fridays For Sale -- Belle

This is a hard thing for me to do to list this horse.  For some reason I really like her and I cant explain it.  I got her as a 4 year old from a sale and she was started at 2 but not done much since and she was out with the stud but never got bred and I didn't pay much for her.  Thought maybe get a baby out of her and maybe ride her.  But no baby and I went to ride her and she was terrified of everything.  So pretty much she did nothing around her till I called the people I got her from and decided to get her bred by one of their studs.  He was a pretty buckskin and all I wanted was a filly, a buckskin filly would be perfect, but of course got a stud colt that was sorrel.  And I didn't really want to like him but I really did and he was a sweetheart, just as quiet and gentle as possible for a baby.  He ended up going to BC in a trade and she loves him.

Other than that I don't ever do much with her but I love her conformation and her head is about perfect.  She is not very tall (about 14.2) and that's perfect for me too.  If I had more knowledge when I got her and no broke horses I probly would have rode her but I didn't have the patience or the skills at the time and mostly was just unsure so she got left.  I am really tempted to take her back up this spring and get her bred back the same way as Jamaica, but I am trying to cut down on horses here right now to a usable amount so I can concentrate on them and showing as well.

She is a little hard to catch cause she is very timid and prefers you on her right side, but in a small corral I can just walk up and get her no problem, no running around, she just stays far enough away.  She is perfect for picking up her feet and getting trimmed, and she loads really easy.  She actually will load herself if the trailer is open, was sure a surprise as I was loading Bailey and turn around and Belle is in the trailer behind me!

She is easy to worm and vaccinate and is up to date on all that.  She is a really good mom and will mother other foals as well (no nursing, just care).  She is sorrel with no socks and a white stripe.  She also carries the rabicano gene and so has roaning through her flanks and on her tail.  She is timid in the herd but knows how to take care of herself, she rarely has a bite or scratch on her.

Her pedigree is on All breeds as LT Belle San Tivio.   I am asking $1200 for her and can have her bred back if I know before Mid May at the lastest.

Fridays for Sale

Well I hope this isn't bad luck cause its Friday the 13th, but here is my first Friday for sale.

I am gonna start with  a horse this week.  As much as I don't want to sell any of them, I am slowly coming to the conclusion I can not ride 7 horses (2 of them being very green and one for sure not even started under saddle) and unless I want them to be pasture pets (which they don't seem to enjoy very much) I am gonna have to downsize.

I don't know how I ended up with so many horses.  Really.  I know how I got Bailey and she was my main horse for quite a while, so she is probly the most broke of all of them.  I bought her as a weanling the year we got married and she come from one of my neighbors.  But I am noticing last summer as well as this summer (so far only spring) I am not as enthused about riding her.  So she is first on the list.

She is a 8 year old (wow time flies) registered Quarter horse.  She has done pretty well everything (well except maybe jumping)  and she never has refused to try anything  I ask her to do.  She has done tones of ranch work, move cows, sort cows, check cows, I even threw a rope on her once, but since I don't rope all we caught was a friend, lol.

She has also done a million miles trail riding and goes up and down hill and across water (and will swim if water is deep enough), has been to the mountains and done good up there.  She is very brave and if she trusts you will do anything you ask her to do.  She is the horse who taught me how much trust really means.  I know if we get in a bad situation I can trust her to get us out safely, as has happened a couple years ago when we where crossing a frozenish slough and the ice got to thick to break and was at her chest level.  I let her decide what to do and she just leapt straight up and over to the side and we were back on flat  ground, whew I was sure we were stuck there.

I have also done lots of arena riding on her, trotted the barrel pattern (even if I don't know what I'm doing, lol)   She has a lot of energy and is a better horse is someone makes her work hard.  If she is just being left to make all the decisions she finds something to occupy her mind and its usually silly.  She is not spooky and she doesn't buck (anymore)

She is super friendly and prefers to spend her time with people rather than with horses.  So she is super easy to catch and she loves being groomed.  She has never had shoes on, never needed them.  Good for trimming, worming, and she loads herself into the trailer and travels well either in a stock type or a divider type.

I am asking $3500 for her but will be very picky about who buys her cause she is kinda special and kinda quirky and not everyone can deal with her weirdness, which is probly mostly my fault but that's how it is.  I don't have a lot of pictures of me riding which I kinda wish I did.

And on another note, Sherry has some awesome yellow colts for sale over at Fern Valley, and Shirley at Ride a Good Horse sold her pretty dun mare but head on over there anyways and have a look at her new baby, hes a cute one!

Quick Trip to BC

A Month or so ago I made a deal with a girl, J, that I was gonna trade Jamaica and Casino for a mare she had (Shasta).  She didn't get along with this mare cause she had lots of energy and she wanted something quieter.  And she really likes the young ones and likes to start them and get them going.  So I wasn't really looking for a trade, but this mare sounded like a decent mare (She actually sounds a lot like Bailey)  So we conversed forever and finally decided we would do the trade.  I would drive cause she was going to college and I had more time.  This weekend worked for both of us and so yesterday afternoon I loaded up the babies in the trailer which I had bedded down with lots of hay and off I went to pick up Charlene.  We left Drum about 4 and were on the way.  It took Casino only about half hour to get her sea legs and I think it sure helped Jamaica just jumped in and started eating.

We took  a small detour (about an hour out of our way) when we got to the Radium turn off and missed the sign and we hit Lake Louise and I was pretty sure we weren't supposed to go through it but we went a little farther and finally decided we should stop and ask and sure enough we had to turn around.  We finally found the right corner (silly national parks have brown signs when I was looking for a green one, lol)  and headed down to Invermere to spend the night.  I thought about going to Janice's after she suggested it but I was exhausted and she was probly another hour or so down the road.  I never even thought of her being that close or I mighta gone a day early and spent some time visiting her.  Sorry Janice, maybe next time. 

We fed and watered the babies in the trailer and headed to bed for ourselves. In the morning we gave them more water which they didn't want, then we headed to J's place.  She lives in town and it was odd to dive by houses and see horses in the yards.  Sure a lot different than here.  It was about -11 and kinda windy so we caught her mare (and she was super easy to catch) then we lunged her a little (she was sound and even when she slipped, she just got up and kept going)  She was just sweet.  So I led Jamaica and Casino off the trailer and into their pen and loaded her up with a full hay bag and made the deal.   Then we headed home.  It was a lot earlier than I thought we would get on the road, which was kinda nice.

We headed up the 93 and saw signs with the mountain sheep on them and I said I wanted to see some, and lo and behold when we got to Radium they were just standing in all the streets and so Charlene took my camera and took some cool pics of them.  They were just standing there and some even posed for us.  One which we missed a pic of had his front feet in the tree and was eating the leaves!  Kinda fun to see different wildlife than we have here.

We got back to Jardi's at about 4 and got her settled in the barn for the night and she was real well behaved through it all.  Tomorrow Char has a lesson so I might go over and hopefully the weather forecast is wrong (it says high of -15)  if its warmer I will ride her otherwise I have to wait till Tuesday cause it is supposed to be +8 or +9 so that will be perfect.  I am not sure what to do over the winter now cause I had a lesson on the flag with Razz on Thursday and she was soooo good that I got caught unaware and now want to show her this winter.  But that leaves me Razz and Disco and this new mare.

I never got very many pics of her so I will post a bunch tomorrow or Tuesday when hopefully it is a little warmer.  I think she will turn out and if I don't get along real well with her I don't think she will be a hard sell.

Ponies and More Ponies

Well I was looking out at my ponies and checking on them so of course got some more pics of them :)  First George walking around impatiently waiting for me to feed him.

And Bailey just patiently waiting till I quit fooling with the camera and feed George then its her turn.

And Casino cute as ever, with her white body and brown head and legs, I am thinking she won't stay this white, but sure is easy to pick her out of the herd from far away.

Ands Jamaica, so friendly and getting to be quite a looker.  I had a couple people interested in him, nothing serious yet, but sure wouldn't mind keeping him for myself.

And Jazz, she is getting quite stocky, I am afraid to ride her cause I am sure I will really like her.  She is pretty and quite a bit like Razz (right down to the left eye that had white around it!) and so she should be good.  But I know I can't keep em all, even if I want to.

But sure are turning into some nice ponies here.  Can't say I'm sad about any of the babies I have had here.   Yesterday my neighbor come and he wanted Casino if she was a boy.  Shoot!  Would match his big roan horse too.

It's been a super fun week so far, I have gotten Jamaica gelded on Monday, and he is doing awesome.  And I been riding pretty much every day.  Tuesday and Wednesday we went on trail rides, and Wednesday Dinero had to go out twice cause I rode with Char when she rode both her horses, he wasn't sure what was up with that. 

And yesterday we went to the neighbors and rode in her outdoor arena.  We were planning on riding inside but she had buffalo's in and the outdoor has such nice ground and is bigger so outdoors it was.  It was really hard for Dinero to concentrate with so much going on, but he did really good.  There is a road right beside it and trucks drove by, then a quad, then another quad spraying the weeds, and more riders, so much to try to ignore for him.  But no more scary than the helicopter that flew over us on Wednesday.  That was weird.

And this morning there was supposed to be someone to come and try out Dinero, but her husband had ended up buying her a horse (not what she wanted but she is gonna keep it for a while)  I don't know why husbands have to do that, a horse is really a personal preference, he might as well see what she wants and then buy it for her.  Sometimes I just wanna stay home and not talk to anyone!  So frustrating.  No wonder I haven't sold a horse to a stranger, they all back out at the last minute. And I try not to let it judge the way I treat other people, but I am mighty suspicious of anyone who wants to buy now.

Other than riding, I haven't gotten a lot done this week, which is alright, and tonight I am going scrap booking and tomorrow is a wedding which will be a ton of fun :)  Although I have been playing out in the garden and watching flowers bloom.  I also tried to pick some chokecherries cause my neighbor said no one makes chokecherry syrup anymore, so I thought I might but they are not quite ready yet.  But when they are, there will be a lot!

Casino

Well my baby girl hasn't been posted on here in a while, so I guess it's time!

She is getting so roany (if thats a word)  and it looks so adorable!

I have to say that I don't usually like roans, but golly she is sure growing on me!

If she wasn't gonna be so tall (and I spose I could think she might not be with her momma being so little)  but chances are she will get tall like her daddy and her brothers and sisters are.

But she should be a good one, with all that cutting bred on the mommas side and pleasure on the daddys side, she should be a good one!

Thinkiing

So I have been thinking lots lately about all my ponies.  I know I have to many and have been trying to get down to a reasonable amount.  So I know some are for sale and some will never be, at least not as far as I can see.  I really like Razz, she will stay, as will Kali.  So far Disco will stay, and her baby (if it ever gets here!) will probly stay unless it turns into a giant since I just read most of Chips foals are getting over 16 hands!  Of course I will have to see this baby if it ever decides to be born!  She sure fooled me, I sure thought she woulda had it by the 15th.

I really like Jamaica and I will have no problem if he stays, I have liked him since he was born almost, even though I wanted a  filly.  Especially since I have started him on halter breaking, hes not overly friendly, but he still does what I ask with little argument.  Even though he is not overly sure I should actually touch him yet, he still leads fairly well.

Bailey...I have thought lots about her, I am picky about where I ride her cause even though she is very well broke and she trusts me amazingly (so much so it scares me sometimes!) she is unpredictable.  Not to the point she will try to buck me off and leave or anything, but she reacts first then thinks about it.  It takes so much energy and focus to ride her.  If I had known how much work she would be when I got her, I'm not sure she woulda lasted this long.  Innocence really is bliss I guess.  I just didn't know what I was getting into.  Not sure anyone else would put up with her weirdness so will be a pretty hard sell.

Ummm and Dinero, well I really would like to like him so much, but he irritates me and I just don't want to do anything with him.  It took me a long time to admit it because he is so sweet and easy.  And I researched him out and I picked him from a lot of other horses.  I felt so bad about not wanting him but I have talked to others and find they have horses they don't really like for one reason or another and it's normal I guess.  I think the reason I don't want him around all the time is he is pesty.  He bothers the other horses and he can't just stand beside someone (human or horse) without them paying attention to him.  That is great if you have all day to spend with one horse, but thats not how I like my ponies.  Bailey was kinda like that for a while and it took me two years to get her over it and now she will stand nice by me for however long.  But it took  a long time to do that, and I had all day to spend with her.

Belle I think she has to go as well.  Even though I really like her and I really like her baby, I don't have a stallion and am not really in the business of raising colts, and I don't ride her so I can see no logical reason to keep her.  If I ever decide I want to have more foals, I have three other mares I like that I could raise a foal out of.  And while not having a baby I can use them.  I also never bred her this year, so that will be another year she will just be hanging around doing nothing.  If she was super friendly I might keep her, but she is kinda hard to catch and so I don't really want her around my other horses or babies to teach them that they first can run away before getting caught.  But again a hard sell being an open broodmare.

Then Neils horse, George, will stay cause he needs a horse a few times a year to ride and Jazz has been sold and Fly...Well he may have a new home here in the next week or so cause I am giving him away cause I don't want him and I never really did.  And since I thought he was sold and apperently he isn't cause they can't afford him and didn't bother to tell me until I asked this spring, after I had turned many people away because I thought he was sold.  I think I have a natural horseman who wants to have a project to play games with, so if he wants him he will have him.

Dinero and Jamaica

Well my two ponies for sale. I have had lots of inquiries on more pictures of the two and many people have refered them to my blog for pictures, so I thought I would post a few new ones taken this morning.  For those not familiar wih a blog, if you click on the names in the bottom beside labels, it will bring up all the posts with that label.  Kinda handy when looking for something specific.

Anyways first Dinero, he is a palomino paint.  3 years old and started and really gentle.  he can be left in the field and easy to catch and anytime you ride him he is the same as ever.  Even if it has been a long time.  He had 4 months riding last year, little arena work but mostly trail rides.  Alone and with others he is good.  Of course a little unsure when alone, but does what he is asked anyways.

Then Jamaica, he is out of my Belle mare.  He was born last year on May 23, and he will not be very tall, but he is solid.  He has been handled a few times and is okay with it.  He is pretty quiet and willing to work with you.

These two boys are pretty nice, but I just have too many.  It gets complicated around here where to put everyone and who to ride.  I didnt realize four horses is way more than I want to ride on a regular day.  I think two is enough, actually some days one is more than enough.

Oh and dont forget to continue to guess for the foaling contest, it will keep going till we get a baby here.  I was a little concerned yesterday when the mares never came up for grain, but nothing they were just eating.  I think they just thought I needed the excersize.
