Moving and Cleaning

Well moved things around here and had a few hassles.  Turned out Nita with George on the North pasture and kept Razz in.  As expected no fighting, a bit of noise here and there but that's pretty normal.  Then I go out to do night chores and there is Nita standing by the others, not good.  So I catch her and put her back.  Next morning she is back.  So I catch her tie her up and go to put panels over the Texas gate.  Well as I am watching her she rears up throws her head up and breaks the lead rope.  She has done that before cause she wasn't upset just went right to grazing.  Then as I am on the way out there to get her cause I have only got one panel so far she jumps the Texas gate right in front of me.  She's done that before too cause she didn't even hesitate just walked up to it and jumped.  So I caught her put her in a pen where she can not see anyone haha she did not like that and I got the panels put up and after a while put her out again, after she settled down.  2 days and so far so good, even saw her out at the far end grazing.  She only has to bee out there a couple weeks till she goes to get bred then she  will be in the field right next to the other horses with no Texas gate.

I rode Razz for the first time this year and of course she was good but oh so fat and out of shape.  Not good since I am taking her to the clinic next week.  Its a progressive clinic and we get 1.5 hours a day to work on whatever we want so I really want her to move into a bridle.  She is good in the hackmore but I want more.  So that's my plan, not a lot of fast work just getting her to accept it and be happy about it.  Its too bad the forecast says rain and cold those 2 days, but I think there may be and indoor but Im bringing my slicker just in case.

Also been riding Easy on and off, plan to go to 3 central shows this year, starting the end of July but Id like to go to more lessons probly after branding season.  There was a limited show I really wanted to go to but its just at a bad time no way can I go after a full week of brandings :(  Oh Well I will save my money for next year I guess.  I think I have decided I am gonna leave him there for show season or try to board somewhere on the way its just too hard being dependant on weather trying to show from home until i get an indoor arena.

A Walk to The Dugout

Today it started out as a real nice day, sure a change from yesterday that was so cold and windy.  I figured my ankle was pretty well better and Monday is our regular walk day and I wanted to test out how it would be.  Its not bad, I sure coulda picked a better place to walk was a bit tender getting back but a little ice and back to normal.

I figured I'd walk out to the dugout up north its not that far and there is usually some kind of birds up there to take a picture of.  So off I went in my runners, a few spots it was a bit wet for runners but all in all not too bad.  I followed the cow trail as its smoothish and always leads to a dugout.

Yup sure enough as soon as I got close I could hear honking.  I got a pic then figured a video would be better so you could hear the honking too.  I thought there would be more than one pair, but not this day.

Then as I was walking out there I was thinking of Nuzz Muzz who asked me like forever ago what the ground was like since it looks flat.  It is and it isn't.  As I was making sure I didn't step anywhere uneven I got looking at rosebushes and other non poky plants, some tall enough to tickle horses bellies.  Rocks, old roads, gopher holes (with my shadow) and wet spots.  And then as I'm looking elsewhere a white rabbit runs right by my no more than 5 feet away, how did I not see him, he's white!

Our grass is not really green, a tinge on the old road of tame grass and the only place the native is green is in the water spots, we need a few more warm days yet.  We should be getting crocuses this week if we get a rain that would sure help.  I gotta get a horse in so I have a reason to go out there and look for them :)  Our cows are ready to move north and unless it gets really bad tonight they are going tomorrow and I wont get to help cause have to go ride Easy if we are gonna show this weekend.

But soon enough, I'm gonna work the arena later this week and then maybe a week Monday get a couple horses in so everything is mostly organized when I get to bring Easy home :)

Turned Out!

Went and rode Easy yesterday again, he was soo good.  He was outside again so got him and got all ready, weather was so warm and sun was super bright just a good day to ride.  We warm up in the indoor and we were trotting around and then he spooked!  At the snow sliding off the metal roof.  All he did was lift his head up to the sky and went a little faster, whew no sideways so stupidness just faster, then calmed down and back to work we went.  All the horses were feeling a bit fresh cause of the warm weather.  Even after we worked cows and he was tired he still jumped at the snow even though we weren't in the arena anymore.

He has only 2 cows in, one to work and one to sit in the middle and it was really good, I was amazed. I still gotta work on going right up to the fence and not leaning when I wanna turn but its coming.  He figured that was good we should stop but decided one more cow wont hurt, so we switched out and the next cow was a little different, she ad her head down then would just turn and run, we had to really pay attention to her, but it was good and we got lots of good turns on her and ended super happy!  Yay!!!  Then groceries on the way home, seems expensive but I shouldn't have to go for another month, well besides fruit and veggies and maybe milk.

And today the ponies in the corral are out of hay so I turned them out, gonna bring them in maybe beginning of March when it gets warmer out and for now just focus on Easy.  I plan on going every Monday, Wednesday and Friday there and the winter series shows so that should keep me busy. They were happy to be out and just to make sure no one was getting picked on I watched for a while, I was a little worried about Pally but Dee was super good and protected her.  They all met and a few squeals but lots of room out there and they were all looking for grass when I left so should be OK now.

I got way too many pics cause I was watching but its so fun!  So weird having 7 horses out there, been a long time since I had that many, just seems like work!  Good thing Easy doesnt know all my other horses are on rest, but he will be out there next winter I think

Pasture Puffs Ponies

So it was too cold out for my Mom when we went out to look at the ponies the other day and so yesterday was warmer so she came out to see them too.  We got out there and the pasture ponies were looking over the fence too so I spoiled them all with a little oats.  And we got some pictures, which was harder than expected cause the gates were frozen from the half inch of rain we got before the snow.

But none the less got there anyways and fed them and took some pics, not as nice as if they are running around or something but I got a good look at everybody again and petted them all and they are all fat and sassy just like turned out horses should be.

Then of course can't feed the pasture ponies without the corral ones so they got fed too.  I'm kinda a  sucker for those pony eyes...like puppy eyes but bigger lol.  I'm really thinking as soon as their bale is gone I might turn them all out too and bring them in later when it starts getting nicer out, specially since I have Easy boarded all winter, that way I can go there more and actually get some other stuff done too.

Then we went wandering and the cats came around.

And me and my mom went for a drive to try and find the elk but of course we couldn't see them, but at least we did see a lot of antelopes.

And we saw a little owl that I don't know what it was, there was 3 of them.  And of course my mom got a pic but I don't have it.  It looks like a great horned except hes tiny, smaller than a hawk.  Ill have to make her send me a pic of it.

Pasture Ponies and Texas

Yesterday I went to the dentist again :(  I guess I shoulda gone more often and it wouldn't be so bad, but now I got 2 appt for cavities, well fillings I guess and I gotta go to Calgary for a root canal cause my jawbone is getting eaten away.  Somehow none of this hurt or I woulda gone sooner.  But anyways after I got home I saw all the ponies close by and thought I should have a good look at them since its been a few days.  I went out there and they all look pretty good, fat and furry.  And I guess the cold don't bother them but brr I was chilly.

 

I got a few pics of them to look at when i am down in Texas at the Futurity so I wont be thinking I need another pony, I know I will see something there I like!  But no new ponies for me this trip.  But am sure excited to go!!!!  We are gonna make a stop in at the AQHA World show in Oklahoma city to see my friends sisters horse go in the finals that should be cool.  And of course the stockyards at Fort Worth and the cutting!  Oh I just cant wait!  Lots of pics will be taken and oh so many memories.  I do kinda wish we were gonna be there for the finals and some of the sales, but oh well maybe next year :)
