Helping Friends

A few days ago, friends asked me to help move some cows from the lease they work on. I don't have a horse right now, so they let me borrow one of theirs. Wilbur. Odd name for a great horse./

We started out at the south end, where there are corrals, and rode out from there. It was a pretty fun ride on the way out, visiting and gawking around. While we were on the way out, a coyote was following us, he was awful close to us and the dog, a little too close for my liking.

This field has lots of water in it, dams, sloughs, and the rest was just boggy. This is why we were moving the cows, worried about too much wetness and cows getting foot rot.

We got the cows started moving and they were going along okay, and I got one of me and Wilbur moving cows

We got them in a small field they call the trap, and let them settle a little.

It turned out to be a long day, but not too bad, it was still daylight when we got back and I got to ride a good horse, so it was a good day.

Sounds like a good day. I mostly call the cows from pen to pen now , but nothing beats gathering on horseback when it goes well

You and that yellow horse are worth your weight in gold.

That looks like SO much fun. Work I know too, but still a good way to spend the day.
