Yesterday I took Bailey over to Jardis to ride. I poked around in her leg where she was sore, and she was way better, still a little spot that was sore, but before she didn't even want me to touch her. Her back is still sore in her hip/loin area but that's nothing new and nothing a massage wont fix. So i rode out with Lu and Jessica and we had a pretty good ride and we came back and I was waiting for Jardi to get back to get her opinion on Bailey.

She just came home from a week away at her sisters and two horses had cuts on their legs and she took them to the vet. One is just a skin injury and will be fine, the other well not so sure about him. The owner come out on Wednesday and seen it and said it was fine, she came out on Thursday and said same thing. Its a wire cut on the back of his pastern and it was covered in mud and apparently so deep the vet stuck her whole pinkie in the hole. It has cut the joint capsule and is infected the navicular joint. They have to take him in a lay him down and flush the joint out with antibiotics hoping it will clear up. Not a good prognosis. At least the owner seen it, so she cant completely blame Jardi. I woulda at least taken him out and washed and wrapped it, not good to have and open wound in mud, especially a joint.

Anyways she said the same about Bailey and we didn't massage her cause Jardi was just too tired to. So then Charlene and Justin showed up and they were going on a trail ride, so Jessica rode her other horse with them and Jardi said I should take Sandy. So we went out again and it was a lot nicer ride. Although Sandy has a bad habit of trying to eat grass, but after I got after him a few times, he was really goo the rest of the way back.

Fly is starting to lose his baby hair, so far mostly underneath the back legs, so not sure if he will roan out yet.

Jazz is by far the most friendly, she just walks up to me and sniffs me, its quite cute, she just cant figure out what I am yet, but she soon will. I tried to feed her, but not interested, she just wants to smell me.

Fly really want to check out what I am doing or more likely eat the oats in my pail, but hes not quite sure if he should. So different from Jazz. Notice the oats on his neck from when he tried to eat out of Razzs and she chased him off. lol.

I also told Jardi my decision on not breeding Belle till next year and she said that's fine with her. And I told her about the fillies and she will try to think of someone who wants them. And I haven't heard about when I am gonna go pick up the Dinero, but i was thinking it should be this week, but I have no time now, so I'm okay he hasn't called yet.

More and more Brandings and Babies

We just came home from another branding today. This one is on an old wild horse ranch past my old house. Wow. I know I used to live out there, but i forget how much country is out there. We took the scenic route there, not bad we only had to open one gate in 65 kms, at least of half was on "roads" where cows graze. The corrals are pretty weird too, five boards and about 7 feet tall. Makes a person feel pretty short climbing over them. I never got any pictures cause of course I forgot my camera and was way to far to come home and get it.

Apparently we are rescheduling our trail ride for the 23 so far. We have three of us who want to go so far. Me, Hailey and Richard. Hmm will probly get more before the day comes. Sounds like about 12- 15 were gonna go on the original day. Woulda been kinda fun, sounds like Keithly was gonna bring Henry. Wonder how hes doing with them.

I went out to see the foals this morning and Belles baby was in quite a funny mood. You could tell he was up to something as soon as I got out there. He started out with this look:

And proceeded onto this:

And then this:

And finally the teeth look:

He kept on making the faces as long as I was out there. It was just so cute.

Yesterday we had a visitor....

He was just sitting at the bottom of the stairs. I called Neil to fix it and he was in slow motion cause he doesn't really want to. Finally he went and looked and he was way littler than my firsts shot.

We got him out of the house and no harm done, the dog never even went after him when we throws him outside.

Neil went up to Stettler to look at the fences and stuff out there, and they have had inches of rain in the last week, so its super wet. There are a few spots he has to go back and fix because he never brought his chainsaw. I asked why, because every year there are trees that fall on the fence and he has to cut them down, and he says, sorry I'm laughing, he brought a handsaw but he got tired! Oh my I can only imagine.

Oh and I think I mighta posted on Bailey before, but I'm not sure because I'm not sure what really happened.
In March I took her over to Jardis to ride for a while since Princess had her abscess and I had taken Razz home. I know Bailey gets stressed in the corral when there are lots of horses around, so I mentioned this to Jardi and she agreed we would keep her in her own little pen, beside the others, but they can't get to her. This was going well, then we thought we would turn her out at night because they were running on like 800 acres there should be enough room for 25 horses out there. Well we are not sure, but we think one of the other horses walked towards her and she freaked out (yes she does that) and went to turn and slipped on ice or got stuck in a muddy spot. Not sure since no one seen it and she didn't look sore when she came in the next morning. I rode her a few more times but she wasn't getting better so I took her home.
We think she injured the tendon up from her stifle on the inside of her leg, cause that's where she was sore when we massaged it, ans she wouldn't trot. She would lope and walk, but no trotting, and she has recently but not much.

We have a neighbors branding this morning and I was going to take her cause she looks way better and he likes to bring his cows in slowly (like me) but he just traded his cows for purebred this spring, so not sure how they move and I dint want to undo 2 months of recovery in one day.

Oh and the babies are growing soo much!
