A Little of everything

Yesterday I headed up to Red Deer to watch the AQHA show up there. Of course I never took any pictures, but Jardi and little Charlene were competing in the NRHA reining they had there. Wow Charlene did so good for it being her first time showing in reining. Granted she was the only one in her class, but even not counting marks, she was amazing, just did what she was supposed to, I'm pretty proud of her. Jardi however, first class she went off pattern (oops) and the second class Shaken got stuck at his spins. But he was hot and tired, and he really hasn't been ridden much this summer, but today and tomorrow I'm sure he'll be better. He seems better earlier in the day. So this is just a jumble of pics I been wanting to share, but never got to, till today:)

The morning we were going to the grazing school I walked outside and I seen a full moon. I thought I should get a picture of it cause I obviously missed it the night before. Well, I think I should take moon pictures in the daytime all the time, cause wow is is ever easier to get a clear picture.

Oh and I had to share this cute pic of Dinero, I actually have it as my desktop so I get to see it all the time

And a real pretty sunset one evening here, although not as pretty as ones in New Mexico or Creston or Oregon apparently, but I am trying

And some pictures of Fly because again I cant believe how big he is! I have to look twice when they are in the pasture cause he looks like a grown horse out there.

Perogies and More riding

Well after the Perogy post, I got asked a few questions, so here's some answers. Not all the answers cause I just don't have all the answers.

Umm my favorite way of cooking them. Well I like to fry up some onions and smokies and then put the boiled perogies in until they are just browned

Then add sour cream until it just melts, and eat. These are the potato and Cheddar ones, and they never fell apart, so not sure I can help there. I wonder if it helps I freeze them first, never cooked them fresh so I dont know if tha makes a difference?I also like to use sauerkraut sometimes. Neil likes it when the smokies aren't cut up then he can have them in buns and its more filling.

My other favorite is the prune perogies, I just boil them 5 minutes or till they float, and put icing sugar and a little butter on and mmmm, no wonder some people call them desert perogies.

I never thought of putting a Mexican type filling in, but I love Mexican food, so maybe next time I will try that one.

While I went riding yesterday and look like Dinero slipped and is sore in both back legs, so we gave him little a bute and will give him three days off and see how hes doing then. But it gave me more time to practice taking pictures indoors. I got Susan on Princess

I rode Bailey and I got the girls to take some pictures, but they weren't very clear, but I had to put this one of Bailey in cause it shows how fat she is, lol

After this Jardi rode Tangle and I found a new and better setting, ISO 3200 and it takes pics super fast they mostly turn out clear

She said she would rather me take pictures of Tangle without her on him, so we did some of that too

And then she rode Shaken and even though the picture is a little dark, it turned out not bad, I haven't gotten a clear stop picture before, so was pretty happy with this

And I commented in the comment section, but just thought I would say again, the arena footing was fabulous, I have never seen it as good down there as it has been these last two days. I think if she keeps it watered and worked it can be really nice, a little deeper than Jardis, but sure nice to ride in.

Storm and Power outages

Wow its been a long long time since I been on the Internet. On Tuesday evening it started raining and never thought much about it, even though the radio was saying 15-20 cm of snow, we NEVER get that much snow at one time. Well at dark, the rain turned to snow, and wind of course. about 1 am our power went out. It wasn't too cold, so we never noticed till about 5. Neil hooked up the generator and we were finally warm again, but our phones were out still. We checked the heifer and there was one in the mud dead. Over all we lost 3 in the storm. We saved a couple others, one was just born, but was on the shed and it was fine, there was another Neil had to bring into the barn and it survived, the third got stuck under a fence and ended up bloated and died.



Sure glad we had a generator! We woulda had trouble watering the heifers and calves with no power to the water troughs. I went out and fed the mares on Wed morning and had a talk with Gypsy about waiting till the weather was nice in a few days to foal, and I think she was in agreement with me as she stood hunched up in the best spot out there.

I never fed the boys cause they are just north of the house and walking north was so horrible, and you just got soaked and couldn't see anything, so I just waited.

At about 2 om on wed, the snow stopped and Neil said there was a power line out across our road, so I thought I would go have a look. It was in the best possible spot, cause the power line runs right thought the pasture the mares are in, across the road and through the pasture the geldings are in and it broke across the road, not touching either fence! It was weird. When I went out there, its about a half mile walk, Dinero and George followed me the whole way there and the whole way back!

All in all, we got about 8 inches of wet snow, with about 2 inches of water underneath it all. What a mess! but we need the moisture so I guess its all good. By Thursday, half the snow was gone and just muddy everywhere.

Friday I was supposed to take Bailey for her massage, but Jardi called and said the yard is icky, so don't bring the trailer and just come ride one of her horses. So i went over and got to ride Shaken. He is pretty nice, awesome walker, but kinda lazy at the jog or lope. It was fun, but Id rather ride Dot I think.

Our power finally came on about 3:30 Friday afternoon. There were 4 power guys fixing the one line, so they musta been almost done everywhere else.
