Rushing Out To Pasture
So Shirley always gets theses wonderful shots of her ponies running and playing and I thought it must be because she has them locked up at night and they were happy to move around and be free. Well the last few days (maybe a couple weeks, time flies) I been locking my ponies in the corral all day and letting them out at night hoping for some good picture opportunities. None came. So I took a video a couple nights ago and I guess maybe its cause I got all older broke horses, no silly ponies here wasting energy when they could be eating or getting scratches. Not that I am complaining I like having no young ones around its makes my life easier for now.

First Day of Summer
So we had our first real day of summer here yesterday. It was 28 degrees and so horribly humid. But still had stuff to do. And pretty hard to complain cause we haven't had much warm weather this year yet. I cleaned up all the branches from the lilacs I trimmed the other day and the leaves that I cleaned up a long time ago and just had in bags in my truck.
I saw the cactus has flowers out there, I was surprised to see the pink ones, I always expect the yellow ones, but I am sure they will be out soon too.
I also scared up a little deer out there. She ran to another deer and they watched me for a while then left.
I sure like the creek down there, some hills are really steep and others are just perfect for riding up. I am hoping to get down there more this summer, maybe when I get back I will get some friends out and we can go out there cause its more fun with others.
I drove out to the pasture to drop them off and on the way I saw the horses were being bugged by bugs. I noticed a few horseflies around and they were running from nose flies. I know how George just hides in the shade from them and Razz will run and then put her nose in water and blow bubbles. Bailey and Jessie were just following Razz around and Kali was trying to hide. I could spray them but it just doesnt last and they spend so much time in the water that they probly wash it off right away anyways.
I also saw our hay fields are looking good and the oats crop is a little short but it it coming along as well.
I shoulda rode out there, felt kinda bad I haven't rode in a couple weeks and I can really tell my back is very sore, but I think I am riding Sat, so that will hopefully help a little. And I have a chiro appt next week before I go so I should be better soon.

Shasta
So yesterday I went riding and took along Shasta to get some videos of me riding her so I can sell her. I am having a hard time deciding who to sell. I like them all. But I think if I sell Shasta and Disco and Kali I will be okay with that. Probly OK with selling Jazz too if it happens before I ride her. But then yesterday riding Shasta I wanted to keep her too. But she is not at all what I want really being a better arena horse and good for barrels and team roping, neither of which I do. But just a nice horse.
I was a little worried she was gonna be silly cause its been a while since she has been rode and I haven't rode her very much, so I tacked her up and took her in the arena and she had to have a look around at everything in there then I lunged her. She was fine. So then I got on her and walked and trotted, lots of circles and she was really good. Still needs a little work on her stops, but they are not too bad. She doesn't really like to stand still much but I am sure she would get over that. She trots like an English horse, feels all floaty. Was kinda neat, I like seeing how different horses ride.
We never loped but she was pretty sweet the whole time and even though it was only about half and hour, she was pretty sweaty. Poor girl. But she still has a lot of winter fur even if it was shedding like crazy too. In the video it kinda looked like she got clipped up to the dark legs. Looks weird.
It was a lot of fun, I was surprised when I got on and I haven't used my ranch saddle in a while and so my stirrups were super long and that was weird feeling. I sure like them long like that, but I am sure I would lose them if I rode them cutting like that. It was a fun day, even though I was kinda hesitant to take her I am glad I did.

Wednesday on Friday
Well we had a change of plans, which worked out well for me since I wasn't sure I wanted to show yet anyways. Char headed to Regina this weekend and so we aren't working buffalo's this week or going to the show.
But she did ask me to ride Dude a couple times since she wont be riding for at least 6 days and thinks he needs to be kept in shape cause we do want to do lessons next week. That should be kinda fun even though I never rode him before it will be neat to see how different he is from Jessie.
Hehe there are a couple dogs hanging around the barn too, one is a border collie and she is really friendly and more of a pet than anything which works there cause she has no desire to chase horses. And then there is this other dog there not sure what kind he is, I think a jack russell mix of some sort. He is really cute and makes me laugh everytime I go out there.
And on Saturday I am gonna ride with Lu so that will be kinda fun too, been a long time since I got to ride with her so I'm kinda excited to see how her horse is. He is a nice looking bay and seems pretty quiet.
I took a couple short videos of the colt playing and he is quite athletic in the second video he is doing pretty cool moves, but the neatest part is the color of the hills behind him, it was so orange, I think it must have been the sun was setting on the other side and reflecting.
