When I Get Creative

So last Friday was our annual bean and Bingo supper at the Pollockville Hall.  Its been going on forever, long before I was around here but its always kinda a fun night and now that I feel like I'm getting old we get home early from it too and I like that.

They asked people to volunteer to bring something and I said I'd bring a desert, and thought cupcakes cause they are easy and people eat them more than cake and I didn't wanna take home leftovers.  So it was a couple weeks to the night and I got thinking, hmm bingo balls are round, cupcakes are round.  Hmm maybe I can so something interesting.  So I mulled it around a bit and decided a bingo card with the cupcakes as numbers and and the title.
(the plan)

So me and Neil went shopping to find icing and papers, I just picked fun colorful papers and we could only find black writing type icing so that's what we used.  I had 2 9 X 9 cake mixes at home I figured I would use and mini cupcake pan.  And on the day I wanted to make them I couldn't find my cupcake pan anywhere (of course) So my neighbor had one and I went to borrow it and had tea all morning and visited, it was great.  She also had a great idea that I use mini loaf pans and make them as the title bar, so I borrowed those too.

Well finally got started and make up cake mixes, pour into cupcake papers in pan and bake them as long as cake mix says.  Make some cupcakes and 1 loaf pan out of each mix, I had one chocolate and one white for whatever people like.
(love that antique cupcake pan, now I want one rather than my new plain one)

Let them cool and then the hard part was icing, the plain white went on easy, but the numbers and letters were a bit challenging but I think it turned out OK.  I used a pizza box lined with tinfoil to serve it in.
(Finished product)

(and leftover numbers)

Was a hit at bingo night, which was good cause as usual I never won a single game.  And I never had to take a single piece home :)

Community Poker Rally 2012

Yesterday I headed down to the poker rally our community hosts every thanksgiving weekend.  This is the second time I have gone and it is always a lot of fun.  See a lot of neighbors I don't see all the time and some new people I have never met as well.

I took Razz today and she was full of energy, which I should have known cause living in the corral gives her nowhere to burn off her energy, but she was still pretty good considering.  We got there about 11:30 which apparently was way later than Neil was supposed to be there cause he was running one of the stations, but somehow there was a mix-up in times and so we he missed a bunch of people at his station but there is always someone else to help out.

We started out at the same place as last year and it is so pretty down there this time of year and out by the river.  It was a little different route this year and that was OK, there is kinda a trail all the way so it is not too hard to find out where we were going.  Razz got kinda attached to her friends she just met that morning and we got behind ( I was visiting) and we loped to catch up, she kinda liked that.  But mostly walking.  After the second station we  had to trot to catch up and by the time we did she was kinda tired.  I was glad of that and she was much better behaved after that.

I really enjoyed the ride this year.  I rode with people I did not know very well but now I know them a little better.  There was a lot of wagons there and always some good teamsters there.  Including the guy who bought my Henry horse.

We passed a area where the trees were fenced out and Razz started wandering around them and so I let her go and somehow she knew there was water there, which was amazing cause I sure never did.  She was a little surprised it was in a tire, but she got over that and had a drink.

I cant wait till next year to go back again.

Ride to The Creek

Tuesday I took Jessie out for our dailey ride even though it was super windy.  The temps were only about 18*C but I figured we better go anyways and I had only planned a short ride cause we had some people comin over about 10:30.  I was out and ready before 10 so I figured no need to take my camera cause I will only ride 20-25 minutes.  Well that didn't work so well.  I was headed to these trees I could see and as I got closer I realized they are across the creek.  Well I didn't want to cross the creek cause the water is still so high and so I thought I might as well look to see where the pipeline I was travelling on went down to the creek.  Well it looked like a good hill so we headed down there, but I knew time was getting short (and I have no watch) so at the bottom we turned around and headed up another coulee.  I was amazed at how much out of breath she was from those 2 hills cause all our trotting Monday she hardly breathed hard.  Might be more hills in our future.

Well I got  to the top and saw a deer skull with horns so I thought I would pick it up and take it home.  But I am uncoordinated and did not know how to hold it and get back on and I got a good scratch on my shoulder, those horns are sharp!    So finally I set it on Jessie's neck and just got on normally, much better.  Then I could carry them without trouble.  But I took too long cause then I seen the trucks come out.  So I rode back down to the creek and we were trying to find the homestead of theses people's grandfather.  Her dad was born on the place and so that was kinda neat.  We found the maple tree and the lilac but could not tell if there was a cellar or anything cause the grass was so tall.  Now I was pretty sad I had no camera.  But they thought it was cool I would ride down there.

We stayed talking for quite a while and I was feeling bad for Jessie so I took off her bridle and she was staying close and just eating, but after about 15 minutes she started trucking home.  I probly coulda caught her but I knew I had a ride back so I just let her go and it took her a bit till she found a hill to climb (not the same ones we went down or up) and when we got back to the yard she was just standing there waiting.  Next time I will have to take my camera no matter what, even for short rides.

Then last night we headed out to do the yearly Cemetary/Hall cleanup.  It works good, there is usually about 8 ride on mowers and lots of hand mowers and trimmers and it takes about 2 hours for both and then supper was provided and we visited for a while and it was nice.  I don't seem to do a lot with the community members so I am glad I went.

A Day Away

Yesterday i headed into Calgary to go shopping with my sister.  It was 50% off at Value Village and her boys needed summer clothes.  She got them a whole lot of shirts and shorts.  And we had to look for ourselves while we were there and I ended up with 1 pair of capris, 2 pair of shorts, 7 shirts, a dress and a couple facecloths all for $39!  I was pretty happy, but now I gotta get rid of some of the stuff I have to make room.
I drove by the same spot with the big metal horse and my sister tried to get a pic of it, but its hard when driving, but he looks so cool!

On my way home I stopped at K and K and was looking for a smaller bosal to ride Razz in so I can get her into the two rein and eventually the bridle.  And they had one, and the felt pads I love.  But they didn't have any hangers or reins I wanted so not a big deal, I can make the hanger and guess will have to find reins elsewhere.  I also found this conditioner I never heard of before but the best thing about it is that it can be left in.  So I don't have to worry so much about getting it all out.  Figured it might help Jessie and her dandruff.  They don't carry the step 4 feed I wanted either, but I think UFA might.

I came home and last night headed out to Pollockville for a ladies hair and makeup night.  I thought I should go cause I don't do much community stuff cause just not interested.  And this was OK.  I did learn a few new simple ways to do my hair, but the makeup stuff I had all heard before and since I don't wear it very often just wasn't what I wanted.  But I did get to visit with some of the ladies I just sometimes feel like an outsider cause I didn't grow up here and I don't have kids, so I lots of people I don't know or not real well anyways.
