We been heading out to the cutting every morning and this morning we decided to get gps lady to direct us there from our hotel instead of just randomly driving through all the fancy neighborhoods and by the university and hoping we eventually find it, lol. Sure was cool to see some of those houses though! Wow they were big. Haha we stopped at Starbucks on the way and it was still under 10 minutes from our hotel and we had been spending up to half hour to get there! Oh well made for interesting trips :)
We saw Winston Hansma go a couple times today. Boy was he sure a nice rider. We see his brother Gerry all the time in Canada and we saw his brother Paul the other day but I think from what we seen Winston by far is the nicer rider.
Also saw a few names I recognized, I am amazed at all the people I dont know, I knew there were a lot of cutters down here but still to hardly know anyone is kinda hard. We saw Phil Rapp, was not as impressed as I imagined since he is an $8 million dollar winner, and we saw Lindy Burch, she was kinda cool I have to say am glad we saw her.
Also found a young stud we sure liked, and his oldest foals are 3 this year and they sure seemed nice and smooth, looked easy to ride, his name was Metallic Cat. Might have to keep my eye out for some of them in the future.
Oh shopping, those were all Nettles stirrups Shirley, a friend bought a pair there with the leveler in them that keeps her stirrups level at all times, I kinda wanna try them out. Was funny we went there and they were still setting up and we asked for someone who can tell us about them and the guy says well I make them what can I help you with, lol. And I really really wanted to see the Rios of Mercedes boots and see what the hype was about, boy they are a nice boot. But $$$. Same friend wanted a pair of Anderson Bean boots and ended up getting the Rios, I wanna see if she still likes them after wearing them for a while. I am thinking of getting a shirt from the CR Ranchwear, they are sure nice, she makes them and they have a little glitter on them, I tried on some and they didn't have my size in the shirt I really liked but we are going back tomorrow and hope she brings more. We talked to the gal that makes them she does a really nice job.
I do agree I wish they would say where in Canada they are from, was interesting to see Cody Smith down here with a horse, did not know he was coming down. And turns out Doug was asked to come down and ride so he come in Wednesday and rode the horse on 3 cows for practice then showed it Thursday! And he said he wasn't nervous, I cant imagine doing that. He didn't score well cause apparently he had his rein hand high on the neck and they thought he was reining so deducted some points but said she was a nice horse. Kinda makes me sad we didn't see him that day cause we were in Oklahoma.
Tomorrow back to cutting for a bit then over to the stockyards in the daytime and hope to see a cattle drive and the train and all the other touristy stuff before going back for more pecan pie.
Thats all I know so far, but only one more day till we have to leave :( Will sure miss it, but I guess maybe have to come back next year for longer :)

Lost in Fort Worth
We made it down to the futurity building today. Boy it is cool but confusing, we even had GPS lady confused! LOL she kept telling us to make a u-turn then make a left turn before we even moved. We headed through a super old rich part of town, wow some of those houses had old money in them! Amazing! We had her going around in circles and finally we just asked and it was super easy. After we got parked and went in the wrong building and saw the sales ring, kinda makes me sad we aren't gonna see any sales cause they don't start till Dec 9th.
Then some nice man pointed us in the right direction and away we go through all the barns and in some other door and whew there we are and boy it was exciting. A lot of nice ponies out there. I was actually kinda disappointed cause I was told it was so much better than what we got in Canada but didn't think it was, but then we got thinking they look like our four year olds and there were no real dinks so they are really good! We even saw the high scorer of the day and he was cool! I got a video of part of his run. But I am not uploading it now, maybe when i have more time to waste, too busy here!
We were there not very long and who do we see but Doug! Of all people he had a good chuckle about it and told my friend to buy a really nice horse and take it to him for training and she could pet it and maybe when it was 8 she could ride it! It was hilarious, we sure laughed at that! It wouldn't have been a hardship to take a few of them home we saw some we really liked :)
After we saw lots and went in the trade fair even though it wasn't really open sure was a lot better than the AQHA one, whew! I was pretty sure it would be but...
And then we headed over to the Fort Worth Stockyards, boy was that entertaining, once again GPS lady tired to get us lost cause we had to take a detour cause of construction but she of course did not know and so we drove through some interesting areas and then finally made it there. It was dark and kinda rainy and so we looked in a few places but not a lot was open and so we ate at Cattlemans and had the best pecan pie ever and then we went back to our hotel. if we have more time we might go in the daytime if the weather clears up a bit. Or we will have to go again next year :)

1 Day at the AQHA World Show
This morning we headed up to Oklahoma City so see the AQHA World show.
We knew a girl whose horse was competing in the senior driving class. On the way up we got to see some pretty nice barns and places, and we saw Carol Rose's place, still makes me kinda sad that its for sale though. And we went through Moore where Toby Kieth is from. Sure and interesting Drive, I am glad we went even if it was almost 4 hours. We got there early enough that we saw the Junior hunter under Saddle finals
and the Aged halter Mares...boy that was boring....so long. They lined them up under all 4 judges before they finally placed them in the class. I though it was never gonna end, but there was lots of people cheering so I guess someone liked it.
Then the class we came for :) It was cool and of course I like driving anyways (even if its with bigger ponies) it was cool and her horse got 3rd so she got a trophy and a picture and a buckle and a coat. Pretty fun! And then she made us get in her picture, not sure I wanted to be in it but she was so excited we did.
We also went to the trade fair, was pretty small I was disappointing but that's OK we got a better one this week :) The amount of showy stuff, stalls and trophys and stuff around the barns is just crazy too! But kinda fun to just be there. And in the one barn was a hawk flying around was kinda unexpected.
Saw this cool log carving, that's one big log and to carve like that was just amazing!
And the waterfall outside celebrating their centennial in 2007, wish it was nicer out there was lots to see.
Got chilly and windy out and was almost freezing by the time we left, was kinda rainy and dark the whole way back but much warmer down here still. Specially when I hear at home how cold it was.

Central Show May 4/5th
Well this weekend went about as good as I expected. I knew it wouldn't be good after not going for a lesson since Tuesday and not riding either. I felt kinda bad for Jessie that she never got ridden, kinda unfair for her as well.
Saturday got there bright and early cause I didn't know where i was going and so thought early is better than I can kinda relax before I go. It is very spread out there, lots of trailers there when I got there so I had to park kinda far away, which was OK, I kinda like off by myself I got Jessie ready and rode her a little bit just to see how she was and all seemed good, so I got off let her stand and eat her hay bag for a couple hours and watched and visited with other people there.
It was about a class before mine and I got her ready again and headed inside, I warmed her up and she was feeling pretty good, kinda a little lazy even, I thought that was good, but I did not let it fool me, I still loped her lots and she was puffin pretty hard.I let her rest for the rider in front of us and then it was my turn. It was good going in but then she didn't stop. at. all. I was so angry with her she was just all over the place. I shoulda picked up my hand but I am always so unsure about it. It wasn't good, but we had one more class to go in.
After the class we walked for a couple minutes and then I made her work again and made her stop and she was doing good, not as good as she can but she was listening. But same thing in the class, no stop but she was better at not just randomly trying to make the cow move. There was improvement so I was feeling good about Sunday. She stayed over in their barn that night and I went to my Moms and had a nice visit with her.
Sunday I got there early as well, just cause I wanted Jess to eat before we had to ride. She was happy to see me and all was fine. A couple classes before mine I got her saddled and went in to the warm up pen. They also have an outdoor pen which I guess the cut in sometimes if the weather is nice. Anyways she was kinda a dork, I went to see if the cinch was tight and she leapt sideways across the parking lot. She is not like that. And when I went to face her so I could put the reins on her neck she jumped backwards again! I knew after that it was not gonna be a good day.
I loped and loped and loped and stopped and loped and stopped. and she was listening pretty good. Then we went in and it was bad again, just like Sat morning. I was actually embarrassed to be riding such a bad horse. I put my leg on her and she ignored and and just flopped around. It was BAD. But one more class to go that I was not looking forward to.
I only had the settling of the herd and then one horse then me, so I let her walk till she was breathing normal and then I loped her some more. And stopped and stopped, till she was thinking stop if I even wiggled. Then we went in and she was still not stopping so I got mad enough I picked up my reins a couple times (3 maybe and she was way better after that. I was still not happy with her though cause she knows better. We left the pen and cooled her a little then went to the outdoor where we loped some more and stopped and backed up and didn't let her turn. She wasn't happy with me either, but she was doing better so we quit. I unsaddled her and hosed her off and she got a little grass till she was dry. It was very warm out so that was like 10 minutes. Then we loaded up and headed home.
I had turned Razz out Sat morning when I left and so now Jessie is by herself and I think she might stay that way till I can get a bigger pen and put 2 others in with her. I also guess I was not very clear with Doug about the show cause he wasn't there Sunday and I did not know that. But I got another lady to help me and she was good. It is kinda like I was told about Central shows, Saturday was good and busy, but Sunday was about half as many people and only 2 people who can help, the rest of the turnback help was just other cutters who brought extra horses. Which is fine but they were not near as good as keeping the cow in the middle and I need as much help as I can get right now. There was also people who brought other horses and just rode them there. It was really weird, I kinda wished I had brought another horse along if I knew that was allowed.

Thorlackson Fundraiser show April 6/7
So I finally got the videos loaded, it really wasn't that bad, I just set them to upload when I was going away and doing something else for a while and come back and they were ready. Before the show, Friday I had a lesson and I worked he flag first and it was OK, I was finally getting her to move off my leg and wait for me rather than just turn in, I think that will be an ongoing process with us. Then I walked her around a bit and let her catch her breath then we went outside to work cows. I got the first cow out and he was telling me all sorts of stuff, I had heard before but for some reason my brain was not comprehending. So he says he will get on her. So that worked well, she tried the same stuff for him and he got her better and gave her to me and said, lets try that. Didn't leave me with a lot of confidence, but what else is there to do? So I headed back to the barn and Jessie got to stay inside cause of the mud, so I cleaned her up real nice and put her away for the night. Went home and tried to get ready for the show, but all I could think about was being not ready....
So Saturday morning I got up bright and early at 4:30 (they said only 55 cuts all day so don't be late). Well I overestimated the amount of time it took to drive there and was there at 7. Oh well, sat in my truck for a while cause no one was around and then about 8 another trailer showed up and it was the girl I met a Doug's last week. So we saddled up and visited and had coffee and took the ponies inside and got kinda organized and then got on and started riding about 9 when the show actually started. It was a little early so we took a break and then got back on again and our class started about noon. I was fist in and so in I went. The first cow out of the herd I made a mistake on stopping too soon before I was in the middle of the cow and as soon as I did it I knew it was gonna be bad and sure enough it was, good thing Dustin was there to stop it for me. After that was better, my second cut was really nice and that cow was perfect for me. The third cow was OK, but I was losing control as the buzzer went. I was pretty impressed with how it went and got a 69 for a score and ended up second place. Woulda won money too, if it wasn't a fundraiser show and we were asked to donate all winnings from the Sat show back. But that's OK, Sunday was a new day and a regular show.
But no good luck on Sunday. I got up at 6:30, much more reasonable time to get up, and it was snowing!
I got there about 9 and got Jessie ready and brought her inside. I got to watch for a bit and got on around 10 and we went around noon again. I was second in and I dunno if I didn't get her tired enough or what, but she wasn't the same as the day before. I was having a better time getting a cow out of the herd, but after that she would not stop and kept turning in towards the cow. Was so frustrating And the last cow she walked right up to the top of the pen with it, even if I had my leg in her, she wasn't listening. I was not happy and it showed with a score of 64, which put me in 4th place.
I guess I am in the right class though cause I am in the middle of the pack, I was always worried what class to go in cause I am new to this but seems like I am OK here for a while. At least till I earn $2000 dollars as its a $2000 limited rider class. I think I can stay in all year but if I get more I will have to move up next year. So far I am at $165 for the one show I been too, lol got a ways to go yet.

Equestrian Challenge Day 7
Day 07- Your favorite ribbon won at a show and why
Well this is a fairly easy question to answer for me, I have only ever won one ribbon and it is still a mystery to me why i won it. I took Bailey to a small community show a few years ago, she was only 4 and had maybe 6-8 months riding on her. But we went anyways and I entered her in a couple classes, wasn't sure what but the Junior Western Pleasure was one of them. Not even sure why I entered that class cause western pleasure is not her (ie slow she does not do, lol) But out of a class of 8 we got 5th. The only reason I can figure we got a ribbon is she loped right when I asked (even if we passed everyone like 5 times cause she is so fast) and she backed up with me hardly touching her reins. Oh and we stopped when asked, not perfect, but pretty nice. One horse would not lope at all a about 3 horses didn't back up at all. And I think only one other horse stopped nice. So I guess it was fair as in riding skill, but not in western pleasure. And since I wasn't there to win a ribbon, just to get her out, I was pretty excited :)

Canadian Supreme
Well its that time of year again, time for the Supreme. I was up there all day Sunday and we watched the open 3 year old class, the non pro 4 year olds, then some cowhorse cutting (which i hate when they have to snaffle bit and rein a horse for cutting, blech!) and then the never won a buckle invitational class. We also stopped for supper at the Keg and mmm was it ever good but boy were we full!

It is not the same as in person, but I think we are gonna go back Thursday and Friday (and I would like Sat) to watch more.
Other than that haven't been doing much this week, just trying to stay ahead of life, but purposely planned nothing to do this week.

My Week
So last week I was having blogger issues. For some reason when I went to the new post page, the title box and the writing box were greyed out. It was frustrating, but I just kept trying and today it finally worked like it is supposed to, so I will give kinda a quick overview of last week. First off I sewed up the fly sheet Jessie ripped a while ago. It actually looks pretty good but since its for super sensitive girl, I put all the seams on the outside so they don't rub, it looks a little odd but should work.
And Monday afternoon we had a horrible windstorm go through here and tear down a 50 foot section of windbreak which we did not know about till the next morning when we look out the window and see horses in the yard. They musta not seen it till after dark and the windbreak is behind a cattle shed so not visible from the house. I am glad in this case that Bailey is a talker cause she kept them all close by, 3 were in the corrals and 3 were in the yard by their pen. They coulda gone all over the country cause we have gates open to the creek and up north cause no cattle around. We went out and have 2 tractors holding up the fence till Neil gets his truck back and can pick up some lumber to replace it.
But our storm was not near as bad as Hanna got it, it tore out trees by the roots and I went on Wed to the chiro and what a mess, there was still trees down on the streets and all over it is just sad. And roofs off buildings, I heard millions of dollars damage. But while there they had the farmers market and so I got some fruit and had to have some pies, it was almost the end of the day and still lots left so she was giving a deal on pies so I ended up with 2, when I really only wanted the raisin, but cherry is good too :)
And since there are so many crab apples on my tree I picked 2 five gallon pails full and been cooking and straining the juice for jelly and the much for butter. 10 gallons of apples is a lot, it took no time to pick and there is still lots of apples on the tree, but I think I am done with what I have got now.
And then Thurs I went down to Silver slate to watch the cutting show going on there. I was not competing in it cause I think a 5 day show is more than I need right now, but that is where the winter series is held and I wanted to see the place and know how long it takes to get there and just scout it out some. It is real easy to find and lots of places to park and so should be good, it is 3 hours from home, so I do hope they don't start super early. While we were there we stopped in Claresholm so shop and I finally found the mecarte reins I have been looking for all summer, and really reasonable too. They are a little prickly but I think they will be OK. Now I gotta find an old rein or something to make a hanger and remember how to tie them on my bosal.
Then Sat I headed down to Maple Creek with friends to the annual horse sale down there. Looks like prices are up a little, specially on weanlings, but also on broke horses as well. Only one colt I liked and a 4 year old ranch gelding was not too bad, but nothing I needed to have so that was good. They also have a cowboy poetry and trade show there so we went to the trade show and saw lots of cool stuff, Found a bit and spurs I wanted but kinda out of my price range right now. I would put them on my Christmas list, but Im sure Neil would have a heart attack if I said I wanted a $650 bit and $450 spurs so I will just save and I don't have a horse for them right now anyways so I will just wish. But we did see where part of a grass fire went through by Medicine Hat, looks like they got it contained before too much damage, but sure is dry and reminds me it could happen here anytime.
Hopefully now it will be working and I can continue to tell my life in little chunks and it don't sound so crazy cause it really didn't seem like I did that much last week till I put it all together.
And Monday afternoon we had a horrible windstorm go through here and tear down a 50 foot section of windbreak which we did not know about till the next morning when we look out the window and see horses in the yard. They musta not seen it till after dark and the windbreak is behind a cattle shed so not visible from the house. I am glad in this case that Bailey is a talker cause she kept them all close by, 3 were in the corrals and 3 were in the yard by their pen. They coulda gone all over the country cause we have gates open to the creek and up north cause no cattle around. We went out and have 2 tractors holding up the fence till Neil gets his truck back and can pick up some lumber to replace it.
And since there are so many crab apples on my tree I picked 2 five gallon pails full and been cooking and straining the juice for jelly and the much for butter. 10 gallons of apples is a lot, it took no time to pick and there is still lots of apples on the tree, but I think I am done with what I have got now.
And then Thurs I went down to Silver slate to watch the cutting show going on there. I was not competing in it cause I think a 5 day show is more than I need right now, but that is where the winter series is held and I wanted to see the place and know how long it takes to get there and just scout it out some. It is real easy to find and lots of places to park and so should be good, it is 3 hours from home, so I do hope they don't start super early. While we were there we stopped in Claresholm so shop and I finally found the mecarte reins I have been looking for all summer, and really reasonable too. They are a little prickly but I think they will be OK. Now I gotta find an old rein or something to make a hanger and remember how to tie them on my bosal.
Then Sat I headed down to Maple Creek with friends to the annual horse sale down there. Looks like prices are up a little, specially on weanlings, but also on broke horses as well. Only one colt I liked and a 4 year old ranch gelding was not too bad, but nothing I needed to have so that was good. Long Weekend
Well this weekend was really long, but totally worth it!! First starting on Wednesday, Casino is now a Quarter Horse! It took a really long time cause one signature on the papers was missing, but I finally got her registration.
Thursday we were helping our neighbors wean and process their calves. Since they raise purebreds all the calves have to be weighed and the weights sent in to the association before the first of November. So after weaning, we separated bulls and heifers and then picked out more bulls they wont keep and all the heifers they weren't keeping and they went to another buyer. Before they went, we put them all through the chute and they got vaccinated, branded and weighed. My job was to put a post behind them so they didn't back up and the brand went good. Doing a shoulder brand in a chute is hard to get at so the closer to the front they are, the quicker it is. Well it was all going good till one of the heifers jumped at the wrong time and the post come up and hit me in the jaw. Kinda made me think of safety, hence the post on safety with cows. Now I have a bruise on the chin and it isn't sore much now, but it sure was! I saw stars and my eyes watered it was awful.
So then since we were heading to Ponoka for the Saturday show, we decided we would head up Friday night and get a ride in and then stay at Charlene's Aunts house with a hot tub! Well we left Friday at noon and stopped in Stettler and had lunch then kept going and when we got there we unloaded everything and then tacked up and some other people were riding and we go to get on and there were cows in the arena! So we helped turn back for them and they helped Char and Dude get a little practice. We were gonna bath our horses but we decided it was too cool in the barn and we didn't want them getting sick, so we just put them away and headed out for the night.
We got to Char's Aunt's house and she had pulled pork ready for us! Wow was it ever good!! I never realized how hungry I was till we got there. But we were much later than we thought we would be so we just headed to bed after supper and skipped the hot tub. Oh well next time I guess since she invited us back again:)
On Saturday we fed the ponies then headed to town for breakfast and we had lots of time so we went down to the tack store and never even bought anything!! Its weird when you don't really need anything. Well we headed back to the barn and the high school rodeo was just starting and Char was getting super nervous, but then Susan come up and we visited for a while then we met the chap lady who checked our measurements and took our orders for chaps. They wont be ready till February cause she is not starting them till after Christmas but we wanted to get our names in anyways. I went with black suede with light leather top with tooling and my initials on one side and brand on the other. Full zipper, twisted fringe, and a square buckle on the back, conchos with black background on the sides. A lot of decisions to make when ordering chaps. I'm so excited to get them.
We thought it was almost time for Char's class and then they run out of fresh cattle so she got bumped to the end of the show so they could call the liner in with more cows. The ranch classes and youth cutting use all used cattle so they went before her class. I thought this was an annoyance, but it turned out good for Char cause she just relaxed and watched other good riders on good horses make mistakes. We said since it is her first show, just go out and get a score and we will see what she needs to work on. Well her turn finally came and she was Awesome!!! She scored a 66 which we were really proud of and the only mistake she made was she lost a cow, but it wasn't an option, the cow run into her horse and it wasn't stopping. She even got a plus for eye appeal, so all in all an awesome first show for her and Dude!!
So it was late when we left about 6:30 and we stopped for supper on the way home and I finally got home about 9:30, so not too bad, but I was sure exhausted! I am so happy for her (and a little jealous I will admit) And I also found out in open cutting I could ride in whatever I want so next time I get a chance to go (Nov 24) I may show her in the hackmore if I have enough time to practice before then. And I have to see how Disco is too, cause if I really like her, I may just leave Razz turned out for the winter.

Sunday Stills -- Potluck or Claresholm Snaffle Bit Futurity
This week our Sunday Stills subject was Potlucks, so I picked a horse show. Today I headed down to Claresholm with Jardi to watch the Snaffle Bit futurity. Its a cow horse show and we went today cause it was the fence work. Friday was the cutting (which I woulda liked to watch) and Saturday was reining, and today was the best day to go.
Jardi's neighbors were competing there and so we watched them and Candice won a buckle in her class. She is in the non-pro and no matter what happens in cutting and reining, the fence work determines who wins. She was riding her second favorite horse, cause the one she really likes was lame earlier this week and she didn't want to test him and have him lamer later, even though he looks fine now.
Greg was in the derby class with his horse and didn't do as well, the competition was really tough and the cows weren't that good, real pushy so it was a lot harder.
Jardi wanted to watch them too and the class that she will be competing in at the Canadian Supreme. Its always good to know your competition. I think she is only competing in reining at the Supreme, but she likes cow horse better, but her horses are more competitive in reining right now.
It was a real fun day and one of the funnest classes was the future Stars class. Its all the little kids with their parents help who ride a simple reining pattern. They all got a candy bag for their efforts.
I think I would like to cow horse but I don't really want to rein, so right now I will stick with cutting. Although I do think Razz would be good on fence work, we will have to see.
I am still learning how to use this camera, the auto is a little different, it picks the right setting, and it picks out faces and focuses on them, but I sometimes hit the button at the wrong tome, so I will keep taking more till I get them right :)
